The prosecution has begun an investigation into Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office 2nd Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee Jeong-seop, over whom ‘suspicions of false registration and illegal criminal record checks’ were raised during the National Assembly audit.
On the 21st, the Supreme Prosecutors’ Office assigned the case of alleged misconduct by Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office 2nd Deputy Prosecutor Lee Jeong-seop, which was reported by the Democratic Party of Korea on the 19th, to the Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office.
Suspicions about Deputy Prosecutor Lee were raised by Democratic Party lawmaker Kim Eui-gyeom during the audit of the National Assembly Legislation and Judiciary Committee on the 17th.
Rep. Kim raised suspicions about Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee’s ▶ disguised transfer of children ▶ fraudulent reservations at golf courses ▶ checking the criminal records of his wife’s employees, etc., and asserted, “This person is not the person who should be investigated, but the person who should be investigated.”
On the 20th of last month, Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee was promoted to second deputy chief prosecutor of the Suwon District Prosecutors’ Office, who oversees the investigation into suspicions of Ssangbangwool remittances to North Korea related to Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myeong in the second half of the prosecution’s reshuffle.
Deputy Chief Prosecutor Lee denied most of Rep. Kim’s claims, but expressed his position, saying, “I am sorry about the issue of false transfer.”
