Investigation Launched into Inmate’s Death at Agder Prison

The police are investigating the circumstances surrounding the death.

On Saturday morning, a male inmate was found dead in Agder prison, ward Froland.

Prison manager Rolf Velde confirms this to VG.

– On Saturday morning we found an inmate dead in the cell, he says to VG.

Ward Froland is a high-security prison with 200 inmates.

– We have had a great focus on looking after the employees and the inmates, and have a dialogue with relatives. Many people are affected when such things happen in a prison.

The prison manager does not want to answer questions about the circumstances of the death, and refers the matter to the police.

– The police received a report of an unexpected death and have opened an investigation case to clarify the circumstances surrounding the death, says on-call lawyer Svein Håland in the Agder police to VG.

He says forensics technicians were at the scene yesterday and carried out investigations. So far, one witness interview has been conducted.

– It will be assessed tomorrow whether the deceased should be autopsied. And then the police will assess whether it is natural to carry out more interviews, says Håland.
