The Center for Health Protection of the Department of Health is today (August 25) investigating an imported measles case involving a 20-year-old man with good past health.

The patient developed fever, sore throat, cough and muscle pain since August 10, and developed a rash on August 13. He consulted a private doctor on August 13 and 15 respectively. He sought medical treatment at the Accident and Emergency Department of North Lantau Hospital on August 15 and was later transferred to Princess Margaret Hospital for treatment. The patient is in stable condition and was discharged yesterday (August 24).

The patient’s blood sample was tested positive for measles virus immunoglobulin M antibody and he reported that he had been vaccinated against measles.

According to the information provided by the patient, he had visited Indonesia during the incubation period but had no contact with measles patients. A home contact who had traveled abroad with the patient developed fever and cough yesterday, while other home contacts are asymptomatic so far.

After receiving the notification of the confirmed case, the Center for Health Protection immediately launched an epidemiological investigation and contact tracing has been carried out. The investigation is still continuing.
