Rotterdam will continue its investigation on Monday into the origin of the vibrations that residents of the Willemstoren felt on Friday evening. A spokesman for the municipality says there is no immediate danger or cause for concern at this time.
Owner Vesteda says that it is also having an investigation carried out itself.
Residents of the twelve-storey apartment complex near the Erasmus Bridge no longer felt safe after they felt unknown vibrations on Friday evening. Tenants of the upper floors spoke of an “earthquake”. The building was not evacuated, but concerned residents evacuated as a precaution.
In the evening, a specialist team of the fire brigade carried out an investigation together with the municipality’s building and housing inspectorate. “No strange things or dangerous situations came to light,” says a spokesman for the municipality.
“We understand that residents are concerned and that is why building and housing inspectors will return to the building on Monday to conduct further investigation. We will ask the owner of the building to conduct an in-depth investigation into the vibrations and report the outcome to the municipality, because ultimately the owner is responsible.”
Residential investor Vesteda has an independent investigation carried out
The Willemstoren, which was built in 2018, has 76 rental apartments, according to residential investor Vesteda. “We will also conduct independent investigations ourselves and will of course fully cooperate with the investigation of building and housing supervision,” says a spokesman for the company.
“Of course we are also curious about what caused those vibrations. Last night we already spoke to residents. We will inform the residents about the follow-up investigation.”
