Investigation into SPÖ Politicians in Turquoise Advertisement Case Ended by WKStA: Key Witness Claims “Same System” as in ÖVP

The Economic and Corruption Public Prosecutor’s Office (WKStA) has stopped its investigations against SPÖ politicians who were implicated in the actually turquoise advertisement case. The now key witness Sabine Beinschab said in her testimony that the “same system” prevails in red ministries as in the ÖVP. The WKStA did not identify any initial suspicion and, according to the Ö1 “Mittagsjournal”, has now finally stopped the proceedings.

The WKStA had examined an initial suspicion based on Beinschab’s statements. The former SPÖ federal manager Laura Rudas and Josef Ostermayer were suspected. According to “profil”, the investigators were unable to determine whether the studies supposedly benefiting the SPÖ had actually been commissioned and paid for by the Chancellery. Unlike the “leg scraping Austria tool”, there is no sufficient evidence, according to Ö1 in the reasons for the appointment.

In a project report, the WKStA had already proposed discontinuing the procedure in July 2022. According to “profil”, the ministry only sent back its statement last Wednesday, which finally led to the discontinuation. The reasoning could also have an impact on the ÖVP strand, as it states, according to the “Mittagsjournal”: “The manipulation of survey results and related agreements between political parties and the media is not punishable by law.”
