Investigation into Money Envelopes at 2021 Democratic Party National Convention

The prosecution, which is investigating the suspicion of distributing money envelopes at the 2021 Democratic Party National Convention, is additionally seizing and searching for former CEO Song Young-gil’s aides.

The Seoul Central District Prosecutors’ Office’s Anti-Corruption Investigation Division 2 (Chief Prosecutor Kim Yeong-chul) has been sending prosecutors and investigators to the residences of three former aides of former CEO Song from the morning of the 7th to secure related data.

An official from the prosecution said, “They are aides at the time when the money envelopes were given, and they are to look at materials related to the meeting at the time.”

On the 22nd of last month, the prosecution arrested and indicted independent lawmaker Yoon Kwan-seok for violating the political party law.

Rep. Yoon is accused of handing 20 envelopes containing 3 million won each in the name of giving lawmakers an ‘order’ to present candidates to vote for each region’s delegates in the small meeting room of the National Assembly’s Foreign Affairs and Unification Committee and the member’s hall. .

Kang Rae-goo, a former standing auditor of Korea Water Resources Corporation, and Park Yong-soo, an aide to former CEO Song, were also arrested and handed over to trial for making this fund.

Prosecutors are continuing their investigation to identify the list of incumbent lawmakers who received the money envelopes.
