Investigation into Gang and Commercial Theft of Construction Machinery in Hildesheim

Hildesheim (ots)

HILDESHEIM – (jpm) Under the direction of the public prosecutor’s office, the Hildesheim police station is currently conducting extensive proceedings into gang and commercial theft of construction machinery. The investigation is directed against six male and one female main suspects from Hildesheim between the ages of 20 and 42.

Last year, the Hildesheim police station registered an increase in theft of construction machinery, especially vibratory plates, in the city and district. The crimes continued this year, with several attempted and completed thefts of wheel loaders and excavators in Hildesheim and the Hanover area since May.

Extensive police investigations ultimately led to the discovery of the seven accused. They are suspected of having jointly committed thefts in the lower double-digit range on construction sites in order to sell the construction machinery they obtained profitably over the Internet.

With the aim of finding evidence, the district court issued 12 search warrants for the defendants’ apartments, garages and vehicles at the request of the Hildesheim public prosecutor’s office. The resolutions were carried out yesterday, Wednesday (September 6th, 2023) in Hildesheim, Hanover, Osnabrück and Cologne.

The investigators confiscated, among other things, various data storage devices and cell phones, a medium four-digit sum of cash, cannabis products in the low three-digit gram range, a loaded blank gun as well as various vehicle license plates, registration certificates, purchase contracts for motor vehicles and blank keys.

In addition, the emergency services executed two judicial orders to confiscate vehicles due to repeated driving without a license and violations of the compulsory insurance law by individual suspects.

There were also executive arrest warrants against two accused, which were also implemented.

An evaluation of the seized evidence and further investigations are ongoing.

Press inquiries in this case will be answered exclusively by the press office of the Hildesheim public prosecutor’s office.
