AGI – The investigation by the Turin prosecutor’s office which is shaking Italian football is expanding. In the investigation by the policemen of the Piedmont Flying Squad into football betting – afterwards Nicolò Zanioloformer Roma now at Aston Villa; Sandro Tonalifootballer for Newcastle Utd e Nicolò Fagioli, Juventus midfielder -, a new name has been entered in the register of suspects. It’s about the defender Alessandro Florenzi. AGI learns this.
He too is a former Roma player and now plays for Milan. For the footballer the accusation is the same: illegal exercise of gaming or betting activities. The disputed case is, in fact, that provided for in art. 4 of law 401 of 1989. The same as Zaniolo. The AC Milan player will be questioned in the next few days. Zaniolo, during the interrogation last October 27, had answered all the questions of the prosecutors and those of the head of Mobile, Luigi Mitola.
The Aston Villa midfielder’s lawyers explained this to our agency: “He answered all the questions and did not avoid any objections formulated by the prosecutor, definitively clarifying his position. No evidence has emerged against him regarding the possibility of betting on football matches“.
Furthermore, Zaniolo defended himself by explaining to the magistrates, during a face-to-face meeting that lasted over 2 hours, that he had played “poker and black jack occasionally on illegal platforms, but never football”. The midfielder then clarified that he had never been subjected to threats or intimidation. For this reason, the defense said it was “confident of quickly closing the legal case of our client”.
Could Florenzi also defend himself in the same way? Will he also explain that he didn’t focus on football? It will be enough to wait a few days: the former Giallorossi captain will go to Corso Vittorio Emanuele II in the next few days to sit in front of prosecutor Manuela Pedrotta and be questioned.
