Investigators from the Anti-Football Mafia Task Force (Satgas) today began examining the refereeing director of PSSI regarding allegations of extortion for the selection of League 1 and 2 referees.
The head of the public information section (Kabagpenum) of the Public Relations Division of the National Police, Kombes Nurul Azizah, stated that investigators initially summoned PSSI chairman Erick Thohir for questioning. However, Erick could not attend, and sent the refereeing director with the initials A.
“Today the anti-mafia ball task force invited the chairman [umum] PSSI, but what he appointed to attend the invitation was brother A who is PSSI’s refereeing director at Bareskrim Polri,” Nurul explained as quoted by the National Police Headquarters website.
Nurul added, investigations into fraud in the implementation of Indonesian football would be carried out thoroughly. This is a joint commitment between Polri and PSSI.
As previously reported, the selection process for field judges was reportedly marred by extortion, which forced prospective League 1 and 2 referees to deposit Rp. 500,000 to pass the written exam. Meanwhile, Rp. 1 million for the package passes the physical test and the laws of the game (LOTG).
The selection of referees was held by PSSI in collaboration with the Japanese football federation (JFA) on June 15-19. Apart from selection, there are also courses and workshops for referees for league 1 and 2 for the 2023/2024 season.
Referee instructors from Japan who are also representatives of JFA, namely Yoshimi Ogawa (member of the JFA referee committee) and Toshiyuki Nagi (JFA referee instructor. This activity contains several agendas, both theory in the room and practice in the field.
