Investigation into discriminatory messages in internal app group Marechaussees

The Royal Netherlands Marechaussee is investigating an app group in which a group of Marechaussees shared discriminatory messages, among other things. The investigation is carried out in coordination with the Public Prosecution Service.

The investigation was started after a report was received about the group, a spokesperson reported to the NOS. He declined to give further details.

The Marechaussee cannot say exactly how many people are in the app group, but speaks of “a dozen”. They were all members of one team that works at Schiphol. They were sent home by the military police pending the investigation. “It goes without saying that these kinds of statements and behavior are unacceptable to the Royal Netherlands Marechaussee,” the Ministry of Defense said.

Last June, the Defense organization suspended six Marines for sharing racist and discriminatory images in an app group. Three Marines were reprimanded, the three others were found to have played a minimal role.
