Investigation into Contaminated Water on Mount Sindur Raises Concerns for Residents

Hearing this information, the Bogor Regency Government (Pemkab) through the Environmental Service moved to investigate. DLH also carried out an assessment.

“(DLH) has made an assessment regarding the discovery that on Mount Sindur there was water mixed with fuel, perhaps leaking from the gas station, we may later ask for a more detailed report from DLH,” said Bogor Regent Iwan Setiawan to journalists in Citeureup, Thursday (8 /8/2023).

The assessment was carried out to find the source of the suspected fuel polluting the water in residents’ homes. According to him, this is dangerous because it could cause a fire.

“Yes, the assessment is to look for the source, the problem is, water can be mixed with fuel, which is a bit strange too. If there is a source of oil in it, that’s good,” he said.

Police Intervene

The police also investigated the water at the home of this Gunung Sindur resident. The police came to the scene of the incident.

“From the results of the checks we carried out at residents’ homes, it is suspected that the pollution came from a gas station which is around 300 meters from residential areas in Nagrog Village, Pengasinan Village,” said Gunung Sindur Police Chief Kompol Budi Santoso, in his statement, Thursday (7/9) .

The police then recorded data on residents in the settlement who were affected by the pollution. A total of 12 houses were affected.

“From the data collection that we carried out, a total of 12 residents’ houses experienced water pollution,” he explained.

Budi then installed a police line around the houses of the affected residents. This was done to minimize risks to residents.

“To minimize undesirable things, we immediately installed a police line at one of the residents’ wells that was polluted, and appealed to residents not to carry out activities in that area until the handling carried out by the gas station was complete,” he added.
