Plot: The crime scene today (March 17th, 2024) from Münster in a quick check
Is the idyllic allotment garden in the middle of picturesque Münster actually a crime scene? Or did an older lady die here quite naturally? Chief Inspector Frank Thiel (Axel Prahl) and Professor Karl-Friedrich Boerne (Jan Josef Liefers) seem overqualified: the dead Sabine Schmidt (Sybille Canonica) is completely intact on the outside, she was popular with everyone, and the facility exudes a harmless cosiness. But how did the two dead squirrels come about right next to her, who apparently died at the same time?
Not only does Thiel find that strange, the other tenants of the facility also seem to be hiding something. And so, together with his assistant Mirko Schrader (Björn Meyer), he takes on, among other things, Sabine’s brittle neighbor Klaus Karger (Tobias van Dieken), who has a very special relationship with his plot. The historian Ulrich Winer (Hans-Uwe Bauer) shows a noticeable interest in Thiel’s investigations, while his wife Vera (Almut Zilcher) thinks it’s all a waste of time. As the professor in forensic medicine is still puzzling over the exact cause of death, his plant-savvy assistant Silke Haller (ChrisTine Urschrift) notices another irregularity in Sabine’s plot, which leads the team to investigate with international implications.
The hard work was worth it: Boerne and Silke Haller (ChrisTine Urschrift) found a skeleton. Frank Thiel examines the work.

Tatort review: Is it worth tuning in to “Unter Gärtnern” today?
The crime scene from Münster today is once again producing strange things: the dead woman is linked to the explosion of a car bomb in Brussels, to missing al-Qaeda terrorists and to a bomb attack in Stockholm. Because that is obviously not enough, big politics comes into play, and the really big ones. Sure, Münster and exaggeration, there’s no other way. It’s just a shame if the story suffers as a result, writes Andreas Frei in our Tatort column. You can read the collected Tatort criticism of “Unter Gärtnern” from Münster in the press reviews (“Herrlicher Fun”).

Crime scene detectives: Thiel and Boerne are the investigators in Münster
Since 2002, Frank Thiel and Prof. Dr. Dr. Karl-Friedrich Boerne in Münster. The down-to-earth detective chief inspector and the snobby forensic doctor are the ratings kings in the crime scene – values beyond twelve million are nothing unusual for the unlikely duo.
Thiel comes to Münster from Hamburg as a divorcee. He is not a man of big words; he hates excitement. Thiel rides his bike to work; status symbols mean nothing to him. His trademark is inconspicuousness.
The elitist Boerne seems like a biting contrast at Thiel’s side. The sensitive doctor is an eloquent chatterbox who likes to surround himself with beautiful things. His hobbies: beautiful cars, horse riding, golf, opera, good food. Colleagues don’t always have it easy with the conceited professor: Boerne can do everything, knows everything – but also often suffers shipwreck as a result.
