ANPLareb investigated whether the reported complaints are related to corona vaccines

More research is needed into lung Covid complaints after receiving a corona shot. That’s what the Side Effects Center says Lareb.
The center received more than 2,200 reports from people with complaints that lasted more than six months. These occurred within 28 days after someone had received a vaccination.
Lareb investigated whether the complaints were related to the vaccinations, but found: “insufficient evidence”. This is also stated by the Medicines Evaluation Board.
Yet Lareb director Agnes Kant emphasizes that more research is needed. Against NRC she says that she finds the passage of time striking, among other things. “We see a pattern in which a large proportion of complaints arose in the first three days after vaccination.”
Brain fog and memory loss
78 of the total 2282 reports were submitted for the Lareb report published today further investigated. These reports involved “a combination of typical complaints” that resemble long Covid.
According to the side effects center, “the combinations of complaints are very diverse”, just like with long covid. “Frequently mentioned complaints in various combinations are: shortness of breath, fatigue, malaise, chest pain, palpitations, dizziness, headache, muscle complaints and joint complaints.”
We made this portrait of Mette in June. She has long covid:

But those weren’t the only complaints. “Also mentioned are brain fog, difficulty thinking, reduced ability to concentrate, difficulty finding words, inability to cope with stimuli and memory loss.” Some people (16 out of 78) say they are unable to “function normally on a daily basis”.
No medical examination
Just over half of the 78 reports were medically examined. A diagnosis was mentioned in sixteen of the 78 reports. Eleven cases involved long Covid, but in more than sixty reports no diagnosis was made or it was unknown.
Not all 78 reports have been medically examined. “In approximately half of these reports, no medical research has been done into the possible causes of the complaints, or this is not known,” says Lareb. “It is not clear whether there are possible other causes, such as a corona infection.” Not all reports were tested for corona.
‘Piece of the puzzle’
Lareb ultimately looked at more than 3 percent of the more than 2,200 reports that were received up to August 16 last year. “That raises the question: what does the other 97 percent have?” says GP Eline Hofman. de Volkskrant. She calls the report “one piece of the puzzle”.
According to her, there are also known cases with long-term complaints after an injection, but those complaints fall “outside the Lareb symptom groups”. “For example, I know someone who started seeing poorly after vaccination, and people who developed a persistent fever,” the GP told the newspaper. “Those people have very serious complaints, but will not recognize themselves in this report.”
Earlier this month, researchers from Amsterdam UMC showed that long Covid has a physical cause and is therefore not in our head. They studied muscle tissue from people with and without long Covid.
Wat is long covid?
Long Covid, or post-Covid, is when there are still complaints three months after a corona infection. With long Covid, people can still experience complaints months and even years later such as fatigue, headache, (muscle) pain, shortness of breath and loss of smell and taste.
Last summer it was estimated that around 1.3 million people in the Netherlands have (had) long Covid. According to the Social Impact Team, long covid is turning 90,000 people’s lives upside down. They can no longer participate properly in society: they sit at home unemployed or cannot go to school and avoid social contacts.
