Another hospital where doctors are accused, after the death of a patient. It happens in Calafat, where the family of a child claims that he received care with instructions received over the phone and that, when his condition worsened, the doctors refused to send him to Craiova. The management of the hospital admits that the allegations may be true and they are investigating.

With placards in their hands and tears in their eyes, the boy’s family is seeking justice in front of Calafat Municipal Hospital. Dozens of people upset by the case have joined them and are asking the guilty to pay.

– We don’t know anything from anyone. To come out and explain to us. We also have the right to at least an explanation, to explain why this child died.

The family’s problem began on July 4, when they admitted him as a child to the hospital in Calafat with a cough that had continued for several days. The family alleges that the boy did not receive proper care, and the treatment was given after consultations made over the phone.

Ileana Lișca, mother of the child: He gave her treatments over the phone. He didn’t even come to the hospital to see how the baby was doing. I prayed to them: “Send me to Craiova! Send me to Craiova.” They did not want to send me to Craiova because he is not a child from Craiova to be sent with him, because he only has a little red on his neck and back, because her -every child.

The family says that after 3 days, the doctors did an x-ray on the child, and later they diagnosed him with acute bronchopneumonia. The boy was rushed to hospital in Craiova, where he suffered a heart-respiratory arrest shortly afterwards and died in the intensive care unit.

Florin Lișca, father of the child: He was healthy, he had nothing and when I came home I found him dead. I don’t want other parents to go through what I went through. I don’t want this to happen again.

The hospital management opened an internal investigation.

Dorin Stelian Niță, Calafat hospital manager: There are some question marks regarding the treatment side, the diagnostic side and the timing of the transfer to a higher facility. We have strict protocols where the paediatrician, even if he is not on call, must contact the hospital when requested, he is in a hospital that we have working. The delay in the transfer needs to be confirmed and we will have those answers shortly when the investigation is complete.

The College of Doctors has been contacted, and the child’s relatives say they will sue the two doctors who treated the boy.
