The motive for the attack on Russian journalists Orhan Jemal, Alexandra Rastorgueva and Kirill Radchenkokilled in the Central African Republic (CAR) in July 2018, was robbery. This was reported to Kommersant by the deputy chairman of the Investigative Committee of Russia Igor Krasnov.
According to Krasnov, the established circumstances of the attack indicate intentions to kill the Russians for the purpose of robbery. The robbers could be residents of the Central African Republic or neighboring countries who systematically engage in criminal activity in this region.
Cemal, Rastorguev and Radchenko were shot dead on July 30, 2018. According to the official version, which was voiced MFA and Investigative Committee (SC) of Russia, reporters became victims of burglars.
According to the Dossier investigation, journalists could be killed for trying to find evidence that a St. Petersburg entrepreneur Evgeny Prigozhin associated with a private military company Wagner. Journalists arrived in the republic, hoping to get evidence that PMCs work in local mines for a fee in the form of gold. Prigogine denies belonging to any project in the Central African Republic.
The Investigative Committee urged not to trust the Dossier investigation, since the center finances Mikhail Khodorkovsky. He sponsored a business trip for journalists in the Central African Republic.
