Encarnación: The prosecutor Enrique Fornerón gave an assessment of the statements made by the former prison director in Encarnación (Cereso) about the alleged use of dogs for drug smuggling.
In a conversation with prosecutor Enrique Fornerón explained that he was aware of the statements made by the former director of the Social Rehabilitation Center of Itapúa, lawyer Pedro Javier Rodas. According to the prison’s former director, the dogs are used as drug runners in the area around the facility.
Given this situation, the prosecutor decided to ask his assistant to carry out the appropriate investigations to verify the veracity of these allegations, since the former director had not reported the matter. However, according to the information collected by the deputy prosecutor, no evidence has been found so far of the alleged trafficking of the dogs, as it was just rumors within the Cereso.
Nevertheless, an interagency meeting was convened with the Office of the Animal Welfare Ombudsman to resolve this matter and prevent this from happening again.
