The European Medicines Agency (EMA) has begun investigating the possible link between Johnson & Johnson’s (J&J) vaccine against the new coronavirus and the thrombi that developed in four people after vaccination, one of whom died.
Four serious cases of unusual platelet counts with low platelet counts following vaccination with Johnson & Johnson have been reported, the ESA said, stating that the ESA Safety Committee had begun to review the reports.
“One case occurred in clinical trials and three during vaccinations in the United States. One of them was fatal,” EZA said.
The European Union (EU) has approved the J&J vaccine, which has become the fourth EU-approved Covid-19 vaccine, but the vaccine has not yet been introduced in the EU. It is scheduled to do so later this month.
EZA said on Wednesday that blood clots should be reported as a very rare side effect of AstraZeneca’s Covid-19 vaccine.
J&J and AstraZeneca vaccines use similar adenovirus vector technology.
