After reports from readers of Plovdiv24.bg about an invasion of cockroaches in “Karshiyaka”, we contacted the director of the OP “Disinfection Station” – Petya Dingileva, to ask her what is the reason for the overpopulation of pests in the area and how the residents of the threatened areas should react.
We received the following response from her: “We have not received such a signal. I need to see that there is such a population and then I can give you an answer, something specific.”
Regarding what citizens should do in order to spray a certain area, Mrs. Dingileva also answered quite bluntly: “It depends a lot on whether it is municipal or private property. If it is private property, you call, give a request, set the time and so on. In the case of municipal property, we go, find out that there is a pest and take measures.”
Thus, we could not extract the necessary information for the citizens, but we found out something quite important: There is no practice for periodic routine spraying in Plovdiv, as there is for mosquitoes, for example.
“It is not carried out, only in the buildings if there are any, and outside it is not sprayed against cockroaches,” she shared.
Perhaps this is exactly what explains the invasion of cockroaches in the “Karshiyaka” quarter. The lack of a regular spraying schedule.
Although these pests are a relatively recent immigrant to our lands, their population is multiplying at a serious pace, and unlike the mosquito, they evolve and are much less affected by any pesticides. Cockroaches are not just an ugly sight, but a carrier of diseases, including hepatitis. To find out more about the damage caused by cockroaches, we contacted exterminator Greta Dobreva.
“Intestinal disorder, asthma and allergies are the most common problems in contact with cockroaches. It’s quite complicated. Cockroaches are one of the most serious carriers of Hepatitis A. At the moment, even bed bugs cause skin-allergic reactions, while cockroaches even spread diseases that are much more serious. If they are released over time, it is dangerous,” commented the exterminator.
From Plovdiv24.bg we call on OP “Disinfection Station” to take immediate measures in the relevant area and consider the possibility of preparing a regular schedule for the disinsection of cockroaches in the city.
