Invasion of Bedbugs in France and the UK: Using Technology and Dogs to Combat the Scourge

In France and the UK, there is an invasion of bedbugs; many entrepreneurs and residential property owners are resorting to various technologies to stop this scourge. The BBC reports this.

“Two weeks ago we discovered bedbugs, and it’s scary,” says Max Malkaowner of the Montlhery Paris Sud Hotel, located near Paris.

According to major pest control company Rentokil, in the second quarter of this year, the number of bed bug sightings jumped 65% compared to the same period last year. And the city council of Luton, a satellite city of London, recently even published explanations for residents on how to prevent the appearance of insects and what to do if they are already infested. Modern high technologies come to the rescue, but “there is another, old and proven way to identify bedbugs – a dog’s nose.”

Dogs sense the presence of bedbugs long before people notice the first signs of their activity, the head of Rentokil’s Technical Academy told the BBC. Paul Blackhurst.

“The population of bedbugs has been steadily increasing over the past decade, and after a lull caused by the Covid pandemic, when people did little to travel, last year saw a real surge in growth, as bedbugs can travel with us, in clothes or luggage,” reports the BBC.
