Annulment of dismissal of employee for dishonesty, Sapporo

A man in his 40s from Sapporo, who was an employee of Japan Post, sought confirmation of his status in a lawsuit alleging that he was wrongfully fired for being involved in illegal sales of insurance by Japan Post Insurance and Japan Post. (Presiding Judge Takuro Nakano) ruled on the 8th that the dismissal was invalid and ordered the company to pay about 15.9 million yen in unpaid wages.

According to Japan Post, a total of six similar lawsuits have been filed in courts in Sapporo, Mito and Kanazawa, and this is the first ruling. The company filed an appeal the same day, stating: “It is truly regrettable that the allegations have not been accepted.”

Presiding Judge Nakano stressed that the man had explained to the insured using documents confirming his intentions that the company had requested at the time.
