Ints Teterovskis: Evaluating Latvian National Cultural Center’s Holiday Success and Planning for the Future

Teterovskis says that he invites the National Cultural Center of Latvia and the Ministry of Culture to create an evaluation conference together. “Both the topics and the content, so that it really is such a meaningful conversation about what may or may not have succeeded during the holiday, what should be done better in the future,” he calls, adding that, as the holiday approaches, any sharper public discussions do harm to them.

“Of course, you don’t want that naturally,” admits Teterovskis, “Also, public opinions always appear: “Who needs those holidays at all? What are you doing there? No one works, only sings and dances.” There are always such conversations. I really hope that the positive aftertaste of this holiday will remain for a long time.”

Thinking about the holiday as such, the conductor is sure:

“It is one of the brightest peaks of Latvianness that is possible for us as a national state, where there are not so many Latvians in the world.”

“It is such an energy charge, which is extremely important, because then what distinguishes us from other countries or in any such comparison, if not our language? As we see, unfortunately even today, even in neighboring countries, someone can think of changing the borders simply to a flat place, ” says Teterovskis.

“It is the national code that is extremely important, and we must hold it high.”
