Introduction to the evening news “OTV” on Monday 12/26/2022

Even during the holiday season, the political movement is intense, even if so far it has remained without a presidential blessing.

Agreeing on a new president is not within reach, as is the caretaker mechanism, in light of an extended presidential vacancy, and a government crisis awaiting the repercussions of the last session.

However, regardless of the practical results that remain subject to positions and developments, it is evident that the Free Patriotic Movement, which many have worked to isolate, especially after the end of the mandate of President General Michel Aoun, has managed to break the cordon, turning into a pivot of internal and external consultations on the presidential election dossier and on the current political package, we talk about it in some scenes.

All this, while other actors in the Christian arena in particular, such as the armed forces, battalions and other parties and personalities, seem to find themselves in a state of isolation that they wished for the present, settling for a tweet from here and a statement from there, and from there some timid political movement, on the sidelines of the events.

If the movement of the leader of the current, Gebran Bassil, between Doha and Paris, and between the two capitals, in terms of visits and contacts announced or far from the media, constitutes a daily orbit of monitoring and analysis by several parties, then his local meetings in the recent period have attracted all the lights, as they have reached qualitative breaches, at least in terms of numbers, with the speaker of the parliament Nabih Berri, the interim prime minister Najib Mikati, the leader of the Progressive Socialist Party Walid Jumblatt, Marada movement leader Suleiman Franjieh and others.

Today, Hezbollah Liaison and Coordination Committee official Wafiq Safa confirmed to LOTTV, in response to a question about whether there was a rupture between the party and the Free Patriotic Movement, that there was no rupture, on the on the contrary, the holidays were an occasion for communication and convergence, adding: “ I called and congratulated the Merry Christmas on behalf of the Secretary General of Hezbollah, Sayyed Hassan Nasrallah, His Excellency the President General Michel Aoun, as well as the head of the movement, Representative Gebran Bassil, in the hope that the coming days will bring more dialogue and communication for the benefit of both sides. Safa concluded by saying: “The message of the Lord Christ is a message of goodness and love, and in this blessed time, we hope that a serene atmosphere will prevail, away from the tensions between the various parties, for what is good for Lebanon and Lebanese”. In parallel, I drew attention today to the position of Hezbollah’s Deputy Secretary General, in which he spoke of a “politically savvy” president, in the context of a tweet in which he said:

“We want a president expert in politics, capable of dialogue with everyone inside and outside. His priority is the economic rescue that is neither partisan nor provoked nor subject to external dictates”.
