Introducing the New Outlook: Free Mail Client with Calendar for Windows 10 and 11

Microsoft recently presented the autumn news in Elevens, and we also came across in them new Outlook. It is an important program, so we will dedicate a separate text to it, where we will specify how it is with its status and availability.

The new Outlook is free mail client with calendar, which will replace Mail and Calendar, i.e. integrated tools in Windows 10 and 11, and later also the classic and paid Outlook, which has been part of the Office package for years. The first is the outdated Calendar Mail – it hasn’t changed in years and will only be available until the end of next year.

Until recently, the new Outlook was being tested publicly, so anyone who wanted to could switch to it using a switch located both in Mail and in classic Outlook for Windows. But a few days ago, Microsoft announced that it is a young client ready and available to the general public. This applies to individuals, but not to companies, which the Redmonds do not recommend moving en masse yet.

Microsoft Outlook sells like a mailman
for Windows 11, but Windows 10 are also supported

So if you primarily use a personal email account, you can finally ditch Mail. Given that it is functionally poorly equipped, this transition will be for most people hassle-free and will bring benefits. (It may be different if you’re migrating from classic Outlook, if you’ve grown with it.)

Compared to Post, Outlook looks nice and modern and does not have such large elements. It doesn’t support merged inbox and offline yet, the development team is still working on it. They are perhaps the only features that Posta has in addition to Outlook. Outlook offers e-mail, calendar and address book in one package. You can customize the display in detail, including the appearance theme, font type or size. The Editor advises you on writing if you subscribe to Microsoft 365. The subscription also removes the small advertisement. The My Day view shows you upcoming events and To Do tasks in the sidebar next to your mail. In time, AI functions such as Copilot will be integrated into Outlook, but these are not on the agenda. Pin emails to the top of your inbox. You can schedule the sending of messages in advance, you can return the sending to a specified interval. For quick cleaning, use the mail cleaning tool. In this way, you can set more or less complex rules for the automated sorting of messages. Outlook supports security features that additionally offers Microsoft 365 subscription for Outlook.com accounts. E.g. end-to-end encryption.

The new Outlook is more equipped than Mail:

Supports Elevens and Tens

If you want the new Outlook, download it from Microsoft Store. In the notification, the manufacturer states that Outlook is out pro Windows 11but in Stor his requirements are set differently – postman also supports Windows 10 from the ancient version of 1809.

I verified that there is no problem installing it in Tens. Which is good, because most people haven’t switched to Elevens yet. However, from a marketing point of view, Microsoft is fully focused on the younger operating system and it will not be any other way.

The new Outlook already supports external accounts, including those that can be connected via IMAP

How do you recognize the new Outlook?

In order for the manufacturer to avoid endless confusion, because there are more than one Outlook, you can recognize the new one by two characters when searching in the Start menu:

it says in the title Outlook (new)has a new logo.

After all, the expression newthat is new, has also settled directly into the logo, although it can be expected that it will not be in it forever. The logo itself is by the intersection of the logos of two accompanying postmeni.e. classic Outlook and Mail.

Automated distribution

Today, you have to manually install the postman if you care about it. However, it will appear on its own at some point on Windows computers. Microsoft vaguely statesthat Outlook will be installed on some devices after upgrading to Windows 11 23H2. This version will be released in the fourth quarter of this year.

Compared to Post, it offers many additional functions, but so far Outlook does not run without a connection

In another blog post dedicated to Outlook, the Redmonds write that Windows 11 users will begin to notice Outlook pinned to the Start menu. They don’t write that everyone, they mention the date of September 26. On that day, the above-mentioned Windows 11 22H2 autumn news package was released, which will eventually be distributed as version 23H2.

So, in general, the Redmonds do not want to commit themselves to the announcement that the new mailman would penetrate all computers with Elevens in a big wave. We don’t know the device selection key. Newly sold computers with Windows 11 23H2 and later will almost always have Outlook pre-installed. Even there there may be exceptions, although they will probably be rare.
