KTM 1390 Super Duke for 2024Over 180 hp and over 140 NmEnd of the splitface era at KTMThe splitface is followed by the projector predatorNew Super Duke without wingletsChassis from WP SuspensionThe new Super Duke is coming for 2024Conclusion
For the current 2022/2023 model of the KTM 1290 Super Duke R, the additional designation Evo stands for the top version with semi-active chassis. But Evo is known to be the abbreviation for Evolution, and it goes further. In this case even faster than expected, because a new KTM Super Duke was first caught as a Erlkönig in the Alps in October 2022. The first video with sound followed in July 2023. It has been known since August: The new Super Duke is called 1390.
KTM 1390 Super Duke for 2024
In August 2023, the new KTM 1390 Super Duke appeared semi-officially for the first time: as a “leak” in online shops. More precisely: in the spare parts lists. The engine, i.e. the new version of the LC8 V-Twin for 2024, could be found there as a spare part for 8,806 euros. In Germany for 8,806 euros including VAT. Although still “not available” and without key data, the number 1390 gives reason to expect around 100 cc more (previously “1290” = 1,301 cc).
Over 180 hp and over 140 Nm
This should increase the peak performance of the “Beast” over the previous 180 hp and the maximum torque over 140 Nm. Interesting side aspect: A second version of the engine appeared in the spare parts list, at the same price, but with a different article number and the additional abbreviation “CN”. CN stands for China. Apparently, the new 1390 version of the LC8 V-Twin will also be manufactured by KTM partner CFMoto in China in the future. We show the screenshots from a German online shop in the picture gallery.
The Projector Predator follows the Splitface
The new “face” of the Super Duke is reminiscent of the science fiction icon Predator from the films of the same name, with reference to the current Suzuki GSX-S 1000 not being missing. The outer glass covers that have been customary up to now have been dispensed with. The headlight housing, which can hardly be described as such anymore, consists of a martially shaped plastic frame in which two LED projector headlights arranged one above the other are hung in the middle. Whether that looks better or worse than a split face is something everyone can judge for themselves. In any case, the border seems to be used for daytime running light elements.
New Super Duke without winglets
Incidentally, winglets, i.e. laterally protruding aerodynamic spoilers, are not visible on the Erlkönig. Apparently KTM designer Kiska resists this fashion trend. Although: It bends a bit far, since small spoilers can be seen on the new radiator cover. Because other changes for the presumed Super Duke vintage 2024 also affect the front end: The side panels are pulled down a little further, and there are also expanding side panels on the water cooler, which was previously uncovered.
Chassis by WP Suspension
You can also see red or blue cuffs on the upside-down telescopic fork, type Apex from KTM-related company WP Suspension. Apart from the fact that the red “bites” with the typical KTM orange: on the 2022/2023 vintage, these fork boots are red on the standard version and blue on the Evo version with semi-active chassis. Accordingly, the photographed Erlkönigin would have been on a test drive without, and one of the filmed Erlkönigen with semi-active suspension. In any case, sensors and wiring on the upside-down telescopic fork indicate tuning measures. Frame, single-sided swingarm, wheels and Brembo brakes are apparently unchanged.
The new Super Duke is coming for 2024
Following the timing of the prototypes caught on test drives, up to the “leak” in the spare parts lists in August 2023, the presentation of the new 1390 Super Duke can probably be expected at the end of 2023. The new “Beast” will be on the market by spring 2024 at the latest.
torque! Pressure! Power!Speed! Speed! Power!
Barely camouflaged prototypes on a test drive, in this case that means: A new KTM Super Duke is on the way again, for 2024. It is not yet known what exactly will change in the “Beast’s” massive key data. But 1290 becomes 1390, that has meanwhile transpired. And the new “face” of the Super Duke can already be seen in the spy photos. In the first video you can see the new 1390 Super Duke driving – and hear the further enlarged Big Twin thunder.
