For a long time, politicians and less-than-confident presenters used teleprompters to read their lines. Now Elgato offers a device that will allow everyone to experience these benefits. The Elgato teleprompter is a compact device with a display, side visors to eliminate extraneous light, and convenient connectors for an external camera, built-in webcam or almost any other device.
What makes this teleprompter different from others on the market is that it doesn’t require your own tablet or phone: it comes with a built-in screen and specialized Camera Hub software. Once activated, the device shows texts for videos and mirrors any window or application via simple drag and drop. This allows you to see both the script and the chat participants’ responses at the same time without taking your eyes off the camera.
Users are not limited to just chat. They can add whatever they want to the teleprompter. Elgato recommends placing a “big game” window so people can catch a glimpse of the championship or tournament during work meetings, although you shouldn’t get too carried away with this either.
Since this is an Elgato device, it integrates without problems with the cheaper Stream Deck. There is a plugin for the device that provides one-touch settings and control options, which is especially useful for streamers and video bloggers. Elgato says it created the device as “an all-in-one solution for content creators.”
Elgato, owned by renowned peripheral maker Corsair, claims its teleprompter is compatible with more webcams, cameras and smartphones than any other similar device, so you likely won’t need to buy any additional hardware.
Installation of the device looks quite simple: the kit includes mounting clips, a stand, replaceable back panels and one USB connection for powering the device and transferring data. Teleprompter Elgato on sale now for $280.
