New images of the Cadillac Optiq have recently surfaced in China, giving us a look at this stylish mid-size electric SUV. General Motors’ SAIC-GM joint venture plans to launch the Optiq as a more affordable electric option in the Chinese market.
According to information released by China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the Optiq will come in several powertrain variants, with the four-wheel drive version being the most recent. The Optiq’s design appears to be influenced by the Cadillac Lyriq, with shared features such as a distinctive grille pattern, LED lighting, and sleek curves.
One interesting detail seen in the new photos is a possible sporty version with electric blue paint, an upgraded grille, and a two-tone wheel design.
The all-wheel drive Cadillac Optiq EV will have a front engine with a maximum power of 143 kW (191 hp) and a rear-wheel drive engine with 68 kW (91 hp). The battery packs will be supplied through a joint venture between CATL and SAIC.
With dimensions of 4,822mm in length, 1,912mm in width and 1,643mm in height, the Optiq will take on the Tesla Model Y in the competitive Chinese electric vehicle market. Although the price and confirmed specifications have yet to be announced, the Optiq is expected to be priced lower than the Lyriq.
Production of the Optiq is scheduled to begin in late 2023 at the SAIC-GM facility in Wuhan, China.
