Auto-Highlight in Outliner
Auto-Highlight in Outliner is an add-on for Blender’s Outliner developed in response to requests from members of the Blender community. Clicking on a selected object in 3DView automatically expands the Outliner, streamlining your workflow.
Blender has a button that opens the outliner to show the selected object, but I have to press an extra button each time. The Auto-Highlight in Outliner add-on automates this process, saving you time and effort.
Add-on setting procedure
Below are the steps to configure the Auto-Highlight in Outliner addon.
- Download ZIP file.
- In Blender, go to Edit > Preferences > Add-ons.
- Click the Install button in the upper right corner of the window.
- Navigate to the ZIP file, select it, and click Install Add-on.
- Enable Auto-Highlight in outliner by checking the box next to its name in the add-ons list.
- To enable the Auto-Highlight feature, go to Outliner and click the Filter dropdown.
- You can toggle the Auto-Highlight option to enable it.
With automatic highlighting enabled,Collapse Other Collection（Collapse other collections)” appears. If you turn this on, the add-on will collapse all collections except the collection of the selected object.
Note: You have to manually collapse the outliner once by pressing “Shift+A” in the outliner.
Now you are ready to use the Auto-Highlight in Outliner addon in Blender. When you select an object in 3DView, the Outliner automatically expands to show the selected object, making it easier to locate and manage objects in complex scenes.
