After months of being in beta, Samsung One UI 6 is (almost) official. The company has announced major new features coming to a variety of Samsung phones, but the launch date is still listed as “Available Soon.” One UI 6 runs on top of Android and provides productivity tools and interoperability with other Samsung devices. In this case, the focus is on new camera features that take advantage of artificial intelligence. First up is the Samsung Galaxy Enhance-X app, which is like the Swiss Army knife of photo tools. When you take photos of the stars, this app can use artificial intelligence to figure out which constellations and galaxies are in your photos. To clarify images, Enhance-X can also remove image blur caused by fingerprints on the lens. Regular video can be converted into slow motion video because Enhance-X can create new frames to mimic that slow, smooth look. Finally, Enhance-X can leverage artificial intelligence to choose the best photos and videos to share with your friends.
This app will be coming to the Galaxy S20 and above, Note 20 series, A53, A54, and all Galaxy Z Flip and Z Fold phones.
Samsung Document Scan feature
Document Scan is among other image editing tools coming with One UI 6 AI Image clipping, which lets you select a subject in an image and turn it into a sticker that can be added to things like videos or photos. AI will also work with the new Document Scan feature, where the AI will detect if you’ve taken a photo of a document and automatically show you the Auto Scan editing screen that lets you edit the photo for clarity. This feature also recognizes which fingers are in the image and can remove them from the final scan. For the Galaxy S23 Ultra only, the High Resolution Quick Settings feature will let you take full-resolution 200MP photos as long as you’re in Photo mode or Pro mode in the Camera app. To capture the right shot, Samsung has a new camera widget that gives you quick access to custom camera modes. For example, you can get a widget that starts the camera directly in portrait mode.
Comparision of One UI 5.1 and One UI 6.0
The photo editor in the camera app is getting a little redesign with a reorganization of features. Straighten and Perspective can now be found in the Transform menu. New undo and redo buttons are also available in the editor so you can quickly compare your edit with the previous state. It looks a little more cohesive than the previous photo editor as all the tools are arranged in a taskbar-like orientation. To check for updates on your Samsung phone, go to Settings > Software update and tap Download and install to check if One UI 6 is ready to install.
