Written by Moanis Hawass Sunday, October 22, 2023 05:00 AM Submitted Camel A host of new features with iOS 17. One notable addition is Personal Voice, designed for iPhone users who may be concerned about losing their ability to speak or have a speech impediment.

Using the Personal Voice feature, users can save and use a voice that securely reflects their voice for text communication on your iPhone. This feature also allows you to create your own unique voice, which you can then use to type in FaceTime, during phone calls, and in many other applications. Assistive communication applications, also available in selected languages.

This feature is especially valuable for individuals with health conditions such as amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) that may affect their speech, as Apple says “your personal voice” isn’t just a voice — it’s an exact copy of your voice, stored securely on your iPhone. With you, you can use it to make regular phone conversations, video calls, and even with third-party Alternative and Augmentative Communication (AAC) apps.

However, it is important to note that Personal Voice is for personal use only, rest assured, your old contact will not have access to it. Your voice, your way, right on your iPhone.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to help you set up your personal voice on iPhone:

1.Go to the Settings app

Make sure your iPhone is running iOS 17, then open the Settings app on your device.

2.Go to the Accessibility tab

Swipe down in the Settings menu and tap Accessibility.

3. Access personal voice

Scroll down again until you find the Speech section, then select Personal Audio.

4.Create your personal voice

Click “Create Personal Audio” to start the audio saving process.

5. Follow the prompts

Just follow the on-screen instructions. Record your voice in a quiet place, keeping your iPhone about 6 inches from your mouth. Speak naturally, and if necessary, you can stop and resume at any time. If the feature doesn’t work, try charging your iPhone using a wired cable overnight, not wirelessly.

6.Save and name your voice

You have the option to name your saved voice or use the default name. Before recording begins, the audio will be checked to ensure clarity.

7. Start recording

Once you’re ready, the registration process will guide you through a series of phrases. It automatically advances from one phrase to the next.

8. Save your progress

At any time during recording, you can tap Done in the upper-right corner to save your progress and come back later. If necessary, you can also return to the previous statement by clicking the back arrow.

9. Enable direct speech

After setting up your personal voice, you can enable Live Speech. Go to Settings, then Accessibility, and set up a triple-click shortcut for this feature.
