Mitsubishi Xforce uses the same platform as Xpander. This is the reason why Xforce uses the same platform as the 7-passenger MPV.
Xforce is the real embodiment of the XFC Concept which was developed for the Southeast Asian market. The engine, transmission and platform have Xpander which has already been marketed.
Hiroshi Nagaoka, Executive Vice President of Mitsubishi Motors Corporation (MMC) said that Xpander has proven to be reliable in meeting consumer needs.
“Why do we use the same platform and powertrain as Xpander? Because we focus on the sales market, and Xpander has a good reputation in ASEAN countries, especially in Indonesia, so there is no need to hesitate to take advantage of the Xpander platform for the next model,” Hiroshi said at GIIAS , ICE BSD Tangerang, Banten.
Even though it uses the same platform, Xforce is said to have undergone development to support the compact SUV concept. Especially the leg and engine settings.
“Xpander was actually launched in 2017 so it took time so we needed to develop something in several parts. Furthermore, the engine and CVT transmission are the same as Xpander, but the engines are very different, especially at peak torque, and will be very useful in urban areas,” he said.
About the kitchen runway XFORCE uses a machine with code 4A91 with a capacity of 1,499 cc which can spit out 77 kW of power at 6,000 rpm and 141 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. That power is channeled through a CVT transmission.
Interestingly XFORCE has four driving modes: Normal, Wet, Gravel, Mud. Wet Mode was first embedded in Mitsubishi Motors models.
“The CVT has a change where there is a change in the transmission pattern so that it can provide a driving feeling that can provide an SUV experience. To make the SUV sturdy, we also changed the front and rear suspension and bigger tire sizes to make it more sturdy. So it is very different from the platform Xpander. Moreover, the fact is that the Xpander platform is indeed very good, so there isn’t much that needs to be changed or improved,” he added.
