Subway users will soon be able to meet a new security agent.
Mayor Adams along with officials from the Police Department presented this Friday a robot that will patrol the Times Square subway station.
The mayor posed next to K5, which will be on duty between midnight and six in the morning, for a two-month trial period.
K5 will always be accompanied by a police officer.
Adams clarified that the robot will move around the main station area and not along the platform. recording video that the NYPD can review if an emergency or crime occurs.
The police do not own the robot, but rather it is rented from the company Knightscope for $9 an hour.
Both Adams and NYPD Traffic Chief Michael Kemper said the machine will not employ facial recognition technology.
However, the K5 has a button that immediately connects you to a live person that New Yorkers can use 24/7 if they have questions, concerns, or to report an incident if necessary.
