“Introducing Green Hydrogen: Emirati Students Share Clean Energy Campaign”

Three Emirati students majoring in public relations at the College of Communication at the University of Sharjah presented a campaign to introduce green hydrogen, and how to produce it using clean, renewable energy, by electrolysis of water. Students Omran Mustafa Al-Mazmi, Khaled Al-Hammadi, and Abdul Rahman Ibrahim Al-Mazmi highlight the importance of green hydrogen in the fields of energy, aviation and maritime transport, as it is the ideal fuel for the future, in light of the importance of sustainable development, in addition to highlighting the UAE’s role in hydrogen production, which contributes to Reducing the burning of oil and gas, employing carbon capture and storage techniques, and improving efficiency, effectiveness, and environmental standards for sustainability. The campaign was introduced to a number of school students and some local departments in Sharjah, and nearly 500 people benefited from it.

Clean energy

Omran Al-Mazmi stressed that the introductory campaign for the green hydrogen project, which is produced in an environmentally friendly manner, through the use of clean energy, such as wind and solar energy, aims to introduce the largest segment of Emirati society to the importance of green hydrogen, which is obtained by separating hydrogen molecules from Oxygen in water, by electrolysis, which requires high electrical energy, sourced from solar energy, pointing out that a model was shown explaining how hydrogen is produced by solar panels and wind energy, and then placed in containers for electricity analysis, and that after the production process, it is stored Hydrogen gas for use in sea and land transport, and for indoor heating uses, in addition to the cooking process. Ammonia, which is used in agriculture, is also extracted.

Student Abdul Rahman Al-Mazmi says that the campaign they launched aims to introduce green hydrogen, which is produced in an environmentally friendly manner, using clean renewable energy, in addition to defining how it is produced, indicating that the uses of green hydrogen are represented in the generation of water, electricity, cooking and heating, and the operation of trucks and electric cars that operate With hydrogen fuel cells, in addition to operating container ships, one of its most prominent advantages is that it is storable, sustainable, transportable, and versatile.

Khaled Al-Hammadi confirmed that work on organizing the campaign took 5 months, during which the project “green hydrogen is the fuel of the future” was introduced, and its importance in the future – especially – that it is environmentally friendly, and that green hydrogen is an important element in carbon removal efforts, because it is a multi-substance. Use, capable of storing chemical energy, compatible with the environment, and can replace coal and gas as feedstocks in the steel industry, thus, it becomes an energy output without emitting carbon dioxide into the atmosphere, which causes global warming.
