Agility Robotics has succeeded in eliminating The next generation of Android Bipedal, which comes with some notable improvements, namely a cylindrical head and two moving LED “eyes”.
In a press release, the company said it has made the changes to Warehouse friendly robotnamed Digit, to improve “human-robot interaction,” according to theverge report.
And robotics company Agility first introduced the cut-off number once in 2020, marketing the device as useful in a wide range of industries, such as logistics, industrial inspection and telepresence, and the robot was also made to work in the same area and occupy the same space as humans, which is why He is five feet nine inches tall and walks on two legs.
And Digit’s latest upgrades aren’t just cosmetic. A company spokesperson tells TechCrunch that its sensor-equipped head should make it easier for humans to understand Digit’s actions, since its eyes “will help relay useful information such as changing direction and other actions while working.” It also comes with some reworked peripheral effects. Its design, or handles, that would facilitate picking up used plastic bags inside warehouses.
Digit’s abilities are still somewhat limited for now, though. While he can walk, step over barriers, crouch, and do other simple movements, his main function is to pick up and place various kinds of objects weighing up to 35 pounds.
You can also see the robot in action in demos posted by the company on Twitter and YouTube, which show how Digit walks to a shelf, removes a container, and then swaps it onto a conveyor belt.
It’s not clear how much it will cost companies looking to gain access to the robot, but Agility Robotics is opening an Agility Partner Program, which will provide partners with an exclusive opportunity to shape the development of Digit’s skills and capabilities, and will initially be the only way to purchase the latest generation of Digit.
