Barcelona move quickly in the transfer market to welcome the 2021/2022 season. The third recruit has been arrested, Emerson Royal, a full-back.
Barcelona have previously secured Sergio Aguero and Eric Garcia, as part of strengthening the squad. This Wednesday (2/6/2021), Blaugrana announced the arrival of Emerson from Real Betis.
The 22-year-old right-back was signed for a fee of nine million euros. Barca actually signed him in 2019 from Atletico Mineiro, in a joint transfer operation with Real Betis.
Each club has economic rights over Emerson from the ‘joint’ transfer. Well, from the deal, Emerson was decided to join Betis as a loan player and Barcelona have the option to bring him in 2021.
That option is then activated Barcelona, so Emerson is now officially in Barca uniform. The BBC noted, Emerson appeared 79 times in all competitions with Betis with a score of five goals and 10 assists.
Last season he was Manuel Pellegrini’s most reliable player, with the most minutes played. He became a key figure who brought Betis to a sixth-place finish in LaLiga, thus qualifying for the Europa League next season.
But Emerson will have to fight hard to get a chance to play at Barcelona. Because he will compete with Sergino Dest, who is on the rise in the same position.
