Introducing a MOD that makes Steam Deck OLED 120Hz refresh rate

The other day, the organic EL version “Steam Deck OLED” was released, and Steam Deck continues to be extremely popular worldwide, with improved specs not only for the display but also for the memory configuration and type, while keeping the price unchanged.

The OLED version has a refresh rate of 90Hz and the LCD version has a refresh rate of 60Hz, but a MOD has been released that increases this to 120Hz and 70Hz, respectively.

The MOD is Nyaaori’s deck-refresh-rate-expander, and there have been multiple reports using this MOD.

Valve is lower than the maximum refresh rate supported by the actual Steam Deck equipped panel. This is to maintain battery life, and this MOD loosens this restriction.

However, according to users who have tried the MOD, increasing the refresh rate does not significantly affect battery life. However, when the frequency exceeds 110Hz, problems with gamma and brightness may occur.

The organic EL panels installed in the Steam Deck OLED are made by BOE and Samsung, and their theoretical maximum refresh rates are 133Hz and 100Hz, respectively. Therefore, the maximum speed of the Samsung version is 100Hz even with MOD applied.

Also, it seems that the older version with LCD can be raised from 60Hz to 70Hz.
