Introduced KS standard for medium and large H-beams

[이데일리 문승관 기자] On the 7th, the National Institute of Technology and Standards of the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy announced an amendment to the Korean Industrial Standard (KS D 3502), which expanded the standard dimensions of H-beam steel, a core material at construction sites, from 82 to 95 to reduce construction costs and expand steel demand. Said that…

As of the end of last year, H-beam is a core steel material for building structures with an annual domestic production of about 3.2 million tons and a market size of about 2.4 trillion won. Eight types of large dimensions, which were less standard than small and medium-sized dimensions, were added, and five dimensions of the 400mm class with the highest utilization were added.

It is expected that the construction industry will be able to reduce construction costs by expanding the standard dimensions of H-beams. This is because if the standard dimensions are expanded, an economical optimal design can be achieved while securing safety by appropriately utilizing H-beams of various standards. This is because if the H-beam to be reflected in the design is not the KS standard dimension, the KS standard dimension of the nearest higher standard has to be used, resulting in unnecessary costs. The enlargement of the large size is significant in that it is in line with the changes in the building industry, which is becoming skyscraper and large. The 400mm-class dimension expansion is also meaningful in that products with high utilization have become more diversified and product options have increased.

The NIS explained that it has pushed forward the revision of the standard dimensions, taking into account the possibility of product production and the availability of consumers. Five expert review meetings and industry briefings were held, and a plan to expand standard dimensions was prepared through a procedure to coordinate disagreements between steelmakers under the supervision of the Korea Steel Association, and confirmed by the resolution of the Korea Industrial Standards Metal Technology Council.

Seung-Woo Lee, Director of the Ministry of Industry, Seung-Woo Lee, head of the Ministry of Industry, said, “This expansion of standard dimensions is a revision of the national standard that meets the changes and demands of demand industries such as high-rise and large-sized industries.” “We will push forward with the revised standards for this.”
