The popular retail store chain “Lidl” in Latvia has been maintaining an atmosphere of intrigue and speculation about when the company could finally open its doors for several years now. Many have expressed the hope that Lidl’s entry into the market will intensify competition between traders and reduce commodity prices.
According to Internet conjectures and unofficial information about the actions of “Delfi Bizness”, it is possible that the expectations of the Latvian population may soon end. Currently, the most reliable version is that the company will open its doors at the end of next week in the period from October 6 to 10.
This is evidenced by vacancies published on the Internet for packers of goods. An eye-catching Internet user has noticed that the work will start on October 6.

Unofficial sources, on the other hand, indicate that advertising materials are being prepared for the opening of the store on October 7. The regional media “Liepajniekiem.lv” also writes that the carts placed at the store at Ganību Street at the end of September “suggest that the store built two years ago is finally going to open its doors to customers.”
Representatives of “Lidl” at the moment refused to comment on the rumors and said that they would inform the media about the opening as soon as possible.
This summer, Lidl was actively looking for employees, and at the end of August, representatives of the store reported that almost all the necessary employees had been found. Thus, it can be assumed that the opening of the store is not really behind the mountains. “The recruitment campaign was slowly coming to a successful conclusion and we are pleased with its results. We have managed to sign several hundred employment contracts with the new employees of Lidl stores, who will now start a fully paid job training course,” a company representative told LETA in August. Intars Rudzitis.
Lidl is represented in 30 countries around the world with more than 10,500 stores. In the Baltic States, Lidl stores currently operate only in Lithuania. The company “Lidl Latvija” was registered in October 2016, and its share capital is 251.5 million euros, according to “Firmas.lv” information. The sole owner of the company is the German “CE – Beteiligungs-GmbH”.
In the last financial year, which lasted from March 1, 2020 to February 28, 2020, Lidl Latvija had a turnover of 722,955 euros, which is 16.4 times more than a year earlier, while the company’s losses increased 2.1 times , reaching 51.59 million euros, according to “Firmas.lv” information.
