On August 4, 2020, the Sursock Museum was partially destroyed in the explosion at the port of Beirut. Located in the historic district of Achrafiyeh, former private residence of collector Nicolas Ibrahim Sursock, the Museum of Contemporary Art was created in 1961. For decades, it has exhibited major works by Lebanese artists, constituting a place of interest. boiling point for modern art in the Middle East.
