Interview with students form pupils

Volksstimme trainee Victoria Hoadwonic spoke to the Magdeburg site management about the tutoring project.

The newly founded initiative “Students educate students” in Magdeburg wants to help low-income students to get more education. Their plans include a new type of tutoring and leisure organization for children and young people. Stine Düwler from the Magdeburg site management will answer any further questions.

Volksstimme: The “Students educate pupils” project has been new in Magdeburg since October. At the beginning, could you briefly introduce the work with the associated key points?

Stine Düwler: The “Students educate pupils” project was launched throughout Germany in 2012 and is already in place at a large number of locations. Magdeburg has also been a new addition since October.

Why was Magdeburg chosen as the location?

Since we are studying here, it just happened that way. Students from various fields are part of the project. For example, I’m studying psychology here in Magdeburg. It is our concern to make education accessible to everyone, regardless of origin and requirements.

Who should be addressed with your offer?

We generally address children and young people who are disadvantaged in a certain way. These can be young people with low incomes or children with a refugee background. Above all, we would like to draw the parents’ attention to our existing offer. Because there are currently quite a few committed students. However, we would like to address more students and inform them about our offer. We are also happy about social institutions that would like to contact us.

How does the offer work?

It is our concern to provide the right tutoring. These can be different subjects and will be discussed individually with the participants. These can be subjects such as math, German or English, for example.

How do you differ from traditional tutoring?

We do not want to be perceived as the “pupil-teacher” construct; rather, as an association, holistic inclusion of children and adolescents is important to us . That is an important concern of ours.

Where can I find more information about participation and the association?

On our Website can be informed accordingly. There it is also possible to register as a student and get to know our free initiative better. We would particularly like to address interested parents who would like to get in touch with us. A donation account is also listed there.
