Interview with Dennis Schröder: “We didn’t have this team chemistry in the past”

National basketball player Dennis Schröder was in the Sportschau interview on Instagram. In it he talked about him crushing him, Dirk Nowitzki and the possibilities of Germany against Greece.

sports show: In the quarter-finals he is against Greece and one of the first stars of the league NBA, Giannis Antetokounmpo. Tension or expectation, what prevails in the team the day before?

Dennis Schroeder: We want to reach the quarter-finals and compete with the best. Giannis Antetokounmpo is obviously one of the best basketball players of the moment, but we are ready, we have trained well and we are in a good mood.

We notice from the outside that you train, regenerate and argue on non-playing days. What do you do as a team in the middle? Playing cards, betting on the console?

We just got back from training, we had lunch together and now everyone has their time. People have families here, spend time with them or go out to eat together as a team or play cards or call of Duty on the Playstation. I also played backgammon. We didn’t have this team chemistry in the past, but now this summer is different and obviously I’m celebrating it.

They played six games in the first ten days. How are you physically, where are you pinching?

I got injured before, I twisted my ankle in the Super Cup, but I went back. The doctors have helped me tremendously to return. Feels very good to date.

Schröder’s “crush” to his mother

I told my family that I will have a dunk at the Euro. It was appropriate for my mother’s birthday.

I work on it every day. I am always confident and throw my shots, which I train every day. Whether they fall or not, you can’t control it. I wear a lot more than just stitches or my trio. It will fall better tomorrow.

DBB-Team will be Antetokounmpo defend as a team

In the quarter-finals you have Greece and Antetokounmpo: how do you plan to defend it as a team?

We all have to commit and go back with focus every time we close. He can make a one-man counterattack against three, four people. We have to do good teamwork and be disciplined. If we can get them in Half court they have to play (red .: ordered five on five on the basket), that’s okay, because they are worse than on the break.

You were made team captain before the tournament. What did he do to you?

I bring everything to every game, that hasn’t changed. Since I have been playing for the national team, I have tried to be aggressive, go to the basket and stage my teammates. This is my game, I don’t think I’ve changed it too much. Of course you get older and more experienced, and then you know when it’s my turn, when I can stage my boys, motivate them. I’m not asking for anything I wouldn’t do on my own.

Schröder on Wagner: “He will be one of the best”

It is still unclear whether Franz Wagner can play in the quarter-finals after the injury. Apart from that: what do you think makes Franz Wagner so strong and so important for the German team?

Franz is already super professional at the age of 21. He knows exactly what he is doing, what his game is like. He is training with one of the first there, he is training very hard and diligently. He has remained with his feet on the ground, he is a family man. He is fantastic, he has to keep going like this and then he will be one of the best, he has the potential. Because he plays so well, we have such success with the national team.

Whenever Dirk Nowitzki is shown on the big screen in the hall, the hall celebrates and you can see Nowitzki waving a little awkwardly. You know Nowitzki and have played with him. What’s going through his mind at that moment when all he wants to do is watch a basketball game?

When he’s with his boys and the camera isn’t there, he’s a nice guy to mess with. But when the camera is on, he’s pretty shy. That is why he is no longer in Germany, because everyone here recognizes him and he wants to be left alone. I think the moments where he showed he was like “When is this going to end?” (laughs).
