INTERVIEW. Villefranche-de-Rouergue: at 16 he goes to meet the Minister of National Education

the essential
A pupil of the Savignac high school in Villefranche-de-Rouergue has just been elected to the National Council of School Life to represent the more than 130,000 pupils of the Toulouse Academy.

At 16, Jan Vaissiere, a final year student at the Savignac high school in Villefranche-de-Roueruge, has just been elected representative of the National Council for high school life. Meetings with the Minister of National Education, national projects for establishments, this young high school student who sets foot in politics tells us more.

First of all, what is the national council for high school life?

The national high school life council brings together two people per academy. We are therefore more than sixty. It is chaired by the Minister of Public Education. We try to propose projects that are in line with the new ambitions of our generation to improve life in school.

And concretely?

For example, we would seek to improve ecologically well-being in high schools. Trying to be carbon neutral, for example. Also, speaking of ParcourSup, to see what we could improve…

Why did you show up?

I ran because it interested me a lot and I wanted to be able to represent more students than in high school and establish projects in a more concrete way and on a larger scale. I have social and ecological values that I would like to propose for things to change.

So there are two representatives for the Toulouse Academy and after?

All the representatives of the academies are meeting in Paris for meetings with the Minister of National Education, Pap Ndiaye. We have already had a video conference with the minister and the rector and on February 2 we will go to Paris.

Is that a pressure for you?

A bit since we represent more than 130,000 students within the Toulouse Academy. I want to be tall.

It’s an extra load on your schedule…

I am elected for two years but being in the terminal phase, my replacement will already take over. But yeah, this role takes up a lot of my time, but I knew it and I’m interested in politics.
