The coronavirus has been gripping Hollywood for months, but it now seems to be slowly but surely coming to an end. For example, filming resumes here and there, including that of the long-awaited ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’. Leading actor Eddie Redmayne (38) is relieved to be able to return to work after sitting at home for so long, although he also admits that he will miss his family. “It feels a bit strange when you have to say goodbye to your wife and children after such a long time together.”

It’s almost midnight in London when we get to speak to Eddie Redmayne through Zoom. The actor has just put his children Luke (2) and Iris (4) to bed and is expected on the set of ‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ in five hours. Yet you will not hear him complain about that, because as an actor he is used to having irregular hours. Although this time it took some getting used to going back to work, especially since he will see his family much less in the coming months. “I’ve spent the past few months with my wife and children 24 hours a day and we really did everything together,” he says. “But now that I’m back on filming, I’ll be out around five in the morning and with a bit of luck I’ll be home just before the kids have to go to bed. It is as if you ‘disappear’ completely again as a father. I am also so grateful that things like Zoom and FaceTime exist, so that I can still be there a bit. ”

Different ‘bubbles’

Redmayne says he, on the other hand, is very happy to be back on the film set after such a long hiatus. “It’s nice that we can all go back to work now, although such a set looks completely different now,” he continues. “We didn’t really know what to expect in the beginning, but the film studio and the producers put us at ease from the very first second. They have divided us into different ‘bubbles’ and we are regularly tested to make sure no one has corona. The filmmakers really know what they are doing. For example, we all rehearse with a mouth mask on and we only turn it off as soon as the cameras start to run. I have never felt unsafe for a moment. “
