the essential Forum open to all audiences which brings together the scholarly and the popular, the Larrazet Days (Tarn-et-Garonne) explore, for their 40th edition, a hot topic but above all at the heart of our lives: ” Medicine and health. Alain Daziron, official host of the Maison de la culture de Larrazet, explains the challenge that faced his association with such a vast subject.
The Larrazet Days are celebrating their 40th anniversary, this weekend of November 23 and 24, in this village in Tarn-et-Garonne which cultivates a rare talent: that of offering all audiences educational and civic debates that reconcile the scholarly and popular. This will obviously be the case for this 2024 edition which addresses a vast and difficult subject, “Medicine and health”, which will be shed light on by doctors, researchers, sociologists and historians. Alain Daziron tells us about it.
Alain Daziron, how were these Days born?
Larrazet has always been a unifying place. It is our quality, our intuition to rest on two pillars. One is the “Trait d’union”, a municipal newspaper which celebrates its 50th anniversary in 2025. It is a fantastic writing workshop, our internal pillar which stimulates municipal creativity and forges the identity in construction of the village . The other pillar is the Larrazet Days which represent openness to the outside world. In Lomagne, at the end of the 70s and the beginning of the 80s, there was excitement around associations, particularly in the direction of Occitan culture. In Larrazet, we started with workshops and concerts. It was from 1983 that we changed the format of the Days by focusing on a subject with the idea of putting the whole word on an equal footing, of drawing out the debates by being scholarly and popular. The first theme we dealt with was the Occupation and the resistance in Lomagne.
This year you are tackling a difficult subject, at the heart of the news whether in Tarn-et-Garonne or in France, medicine and health. Why this choice?
You are right, it is a difficult subject to access for non-caregivers. It is rather unusual to see a small village association, outside of health or institutional authorities but in close dialogue with them, take on the subject of medicine and health. This subject has become so significant with the Covid pandemic and the health system under pressure that we had to address it. After teaching in 2022 and nurturing in 2023, caring will be a third major social subject, at the heart of our lives, which will be highlighted and discussed for two days. I must admit that this is a subject that scared me because I wondered how to find good contacts. In the end, it went magnificently and we will have the best from France, whether for the two cycles of conferences on Saturday and Sunday afternoon or for the round table on Saturday evening.

A word about your guests.
They perfectly meet our objective which was to summarize a continental subject by shedding light on both the historical perspective and the current affairs of care. We could not imagine this edition without historical lighting and anchoring to measure where we come from. With Joël Chandelier, the history of world medicine and with Renaud Piarroux, the nightmare of epidemics on a time and planetary scale will be in good hands. It will be the same with Colette Bec who will bring us closer, which is essential, to the history of solidarity and social protection since the 19th century. The round table on Saturday evening will give pride of place to the testimonies and shared perspectives of caregivers who carry out the quality of care and attention to others every day. The second day, Sunday, will be entirely focused on current events, the flaws and the challenges that our health system must meet. Bruno Falissard, researcher and teacher at Paris-Saclay; Dr Frédéric Paing, vice-president of the Collectif Santé en danger and Marc Poirot, researcher at Inserm and the University of Toulouse-3 will provide us with three incisive and enlightening summaries which will provide an overview of the state of care in our society .
