Interval between shots shorter, but scheduled appointments not brought forward

From tomorrow, the interval between two shots with an mRNA vaccine at the GGD will be shortened to 28 days. GGD GHOR reports this to the NOS. Until now, the interval was always 35 days.

Last Friday, outgoing minister De Jonge already announced that the interval could be shorter: 21 days for Pfizer’s vaccine and 28 days for Moderna. What that would look like in practice was still unclear. The GGD has now decided to stick to 28 days, because this is the minimum allowed interval for the Moderna vaccine and no distinction can be made between Pfizer and Moderna when scheduling vaccinations.

For people who already have an appointment for a second vaccination, it is not possible to shorten the interval and bring the appointment forward. “There is currently insufficient vaccine available for this. People are therefore requested not to contact the GGD about this,” said a spokesperson.

Already people who got the second shot without an appointment

Several people got a second shot in Amsterdam this weekend without an appointment. That was a misunderstanding and absolutely not the intention, says a spokesperson for GGD Amsterdam.

“If people have been able to get a second shot without an appointment, that is really against the instruction. That is really not allowed,” says the spokesperson. Yesterday and today, posts appeared on social media from people saying they had done so.
