Inter’s Possible New Stadium in Rozzano and the Future of San Siro

There is a “simple cultural bond” on Mezza therefore “the stadium remains where it is”. The San Siro hypothesis, which envisaged the demolition of the historic facility in favor of the construction of a new one for Inter and Milan, dies on a late July afternoon. And it does so with a note from the Municipality of Milan which, after learning that Inter is evaluating the hypothesis of building its new facility in Rozzano, lets it be known that «an official communication has not yet been received from the Superintendency, but the choice for a “simple cultural bond” would seem to have been confirmed by now. Constraint that actually imposes, in concrete terms, that the stadium remains where it is. It is recalled, once again – adds Palazzo Marino – that the project of a new stadium presented by the clubs contemplated the demolition of the current plant”. A decision, that of the superintendent Emanuela Carpani, which “if confirmed, would have serious consequences not only for the future of the stadium and for its economic sustainability, but also because it would greatly reduce the chances that the teams will remain in Milan with a new facility”. explains Palazzo Marino.

For all this, Inter could build the new stadium in Rozzano. The club obtained from Bastogi and Brioschi an exclusive right for a feasibility study in an area of the municipality south of Milan, owned by Infrafin, a company wholly owned by Camabo, whose capital is 51% held by Bastogi and from Brioschi to 49%. The green area is at the Milan West barrier on the Milan-Genoa motorway. The exclusive right is valid until April 30 and serves to verify the possibility of building a new plant together with a series of facilities.

The Nerazzurri, however, have not yet formalized the renunciation of plan A, i.e. the construction of a new facility with Milan at the San Siro and, at the same time, the demolition of the Meazza. But in recent months, the specter of a constraint on the second tier of the current stadium – which could be placed by the Superintendency and which would start from 2026 – has made both clubs desist: in fact, the Rossoneri have been taking an interest in the ‘area San Francesco in San Donato Milanese, carrying on a fruitful discussion with the mayor, Francesco Squeri. In Milan, however, mayor Beppe Sala is silent for now and awaits the formal renunciation of the two teams on plan A. Meanwhile, his favorite team has prepared plan A-bis.
