Inter’s Average Attendance Soars After Messi’s Arrival, Injury Hinders Performance

An average of 45,764 fans attended Inter’s six away games after Messi’s arrival. The record seven-time Ballon d’Or winner only hit three of them, missing half due to injury.

Inter, co-owned by former England footballer David Beckham, also saw the highest increase in average attendances compared to last season, up 40 percent.

The 36-year-old Messi, who led Argentina to victory at the World Cup in Qatar last year, headed to Florida after the end of his engagement in Paris St. Germaine. He played 14 matches for Inter and scored 11 goals. He completed half of the matches in the summer Leagues Cup, in which he led the team to victory. It was the first trophy in the Florida team’s short history. However, Miami did not make it to the MLS playoffs.
