Interpretive trail inaugurated in the archaeological zone of Malinalco

Mexico City. The National Institute of Anthropology and History (INAH) yesterday inaugurated the interpretive trail of the natural and cultural legacy of the archaeological zone of Malinalco, state of Mexico.

On the route, which is located on the ascent of the Cerro de los Idolos, visitors can observe the pre-Hispanic ceremonial buildings, and will be able to admire the Cuauhcalli, a unique space on the continent because it is carved at the foot of the mountain. In addition, 22 cards were installed to provide information to the public.

The dissemination project was created jointly with the National Commission for the Knowledge and Use of Biodiversity (Conabio) and the Mexican subsidiary of the company Epson, which sponsored more than twenty information sheets displayed in the Introductory Room of the site and on the aforementioned path.

The national coordinator of Cultural Heritage Conservation (CNCPC) of the INAH, María del Carmen Castro Barrera, highlighted the work of the state INAH Center and with the Site Operation Directorate, because “the dialogue between disciplines and experiences in different fields of knowledge generated strategic spaces for community interaction like this one”, and a common front was achieved in the face of the phenomena of environmental and cultural degradation.

Meanwhile, the head of the INAH Center, Nahúm Noguera Rico, stated that a tourist dissemination circuit based on biocultural heritage will also be opened, which will start from the former Augustinian convent of the Divino Salvador, continue in the chapel of Santa Mónica, followed by the Museum University Dr. Luis Mario Scheneider, and will conclude in this archaeological site, located in the Texcaltepec o Hill of idols.
