Interpol has identified more than 20 thousand routers infected with cryptocurrency miners

The international criminal police organization, better known as Interpol, along with Trend Micro, a Japanese cyber security company, conducted an operation to eliminate hidden miners in Asia.

As reported in press release Trend Micro, within five months, law enforcement officers, experts from Interpol and the Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT) have identified more than 20 thousand routers infected with viruses for hidden mining of cryptocurrencies.

Attackers used the vulnerability in MicroTik routers, experts said.

According to information Interpol, the operation was carried out in the territory of Brunei, Cambodia, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam.

Trend Micro claims that thanks to joint efforts, the number of infected devices has dropped by 78% by November.
