Mexico City. The Mexican Navy Secretariat (Semar) and the Tehuantepec Isthmus Railway (FIT) reported that two thousand tons of wheat grain were transported, owned by the company Viterra México, which highlights “the importance of interoceanic route and materializes the vocation of the model proposed for the Interoceanic Corridor.
The naval institution and the parastatal company indicated that the Interoceanic Corridor “seeks to take advantage of the geostrategic space of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec to implement a logistics platform, where the synergy of the port administration services and the cargo transportation services of the Isthmus of Tehuantepec Railway detonates regional development”.
They indicated that the last record of wheat transportation dates back to 2018, in an attempt to reactivate the rail service between these two ports, and after six years, the movement of interoceanic wheat was restarted.
The cargo, imported from Canada, arrived at the Port of Salina Cruz, on the Vessel “SSI Prudence” and was “transhipped into bulk hoppers owned by the FIT and transported to the warehouses of the Trimex company in the Port of Coatzacoalcos through the Line Z”.
It should be remembered that the “intention to consolidate the interoceanic crossing was what motivated the construction of Line Z at the beginning of the 20th century; However, after the Panama Canal came into operation, the efforts had been fruitless,” indicated Semar.
