Telecom companies do not dare to put the entire inflation bill on customers, for fear that they will walk away. Ziggo announced a price increase of 8.5 percent last week. That is a significant increase, but still less than inflation of 10 percent. KPN did something similar at the end of last year.
Due to inflation, private customers of Ziggo will pay an average of 8.5 percent more for TV, internet and telephony from 1 July. Business customers have to dig deeper into their pockets and pay the full 10 percent more.
“We have taken saving measures so that we do not have to take full inflation into account,” a spokesperson tells NU.nl. The provider wants to prevent customers from taking out their subscription elsewhere.
KPN implemented an inflation correction of 5.8 percent in October 2022. But if this would increase the price by more than 2 euros, the price increase was limited to a maximum of 2 euros. KPN also kept a close eye on the competition.
At Ziggo, households will pay 3.50 euros to 7.75 euros more per month for their Ziggo subscription from 1 July. The most expensive subscriptions are increased less in price than the cheaper contracts.
New customers will also be affected by the rate increases. From July 1, the prices of all subscriptions on the Ziggo website will be increased.
People who take out a subscription before that time will be informed that they will also pay more from July. Previously, most telecom companies only applied inflation adjustment to customers with a current contract.
